[John 6:27]
Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of Man hath power to give unto you; for him hath God the Father sealed.
Jesus instructs his followers to seek spiritual nourishment rather than merely focusing on physical sustenance. The “meat which perisheth” symbolizes material and temporal needs, which, though necessary, are brief and ultimately unsatisfying. In contrast, the “meat which endureth unto everlasting life” represents spiritual fulfillment and the eternal sustenance that comes from a relationship with God.
Jesus, referring to himself as the “Son of Man,” shows us that he has the authority to grant eternal life because he is divinely appointed by God the Father. This is a reminder that our spiritual journey and relationship with Jesus are of paramount importance. When we invest time in prayer, studying scripture, and living out our faith, we are labouring for that “meat” which endures forever.
prioritizing spiritual needs promotes a sense of purpose and direction. It reminds us that our lives have meaning and that we are part of a larger, divine plan. This awareness should inspire us to live more intentionally, making choices that reflect our values and beliefs.
