Today i thought I would explore this a little as it is something that I think many people struggle with when the first come to Faith.
What Was God Doing Before Creation?
This question in its self shows a basic misunderstanding of God and time.
Many people who believe in the Creation as shown in the Bible will get asked
“What was God doing all that time before He created?”
but once you understand and have Faith in the answer you will realize that Because God has always existed, then it is meaningless to ask,
“What was God doing all that time before He created?”
there are a good number of people that feel that no matter how far you were to go back in time, you would still have an infinite amount of time before He created!
The fact that many overlook is that Time Was Created with the Universe
So this means that there was no time before God created.
So we could easily say
Time is actually a created entity. time in its self is a dimension of our existence it is not a constant .
The third verse of the Bible(IV) reads:
Genesis 1:3 Yea, in the beginning I created the heaven, and the earth upon which thou standest.
when we analyse this verse it reveals that God created time, space, and matter on the first day of Creation Week.
There is an intertwined symbiotic relationship here between all of these elements and that means none of them can have existence without the other. . Space and matter must exist in time, and time requires space and matter. Time is only meaningful if physical entities exist and events transpire during time.
“In the beginning . . .” is when time began! There was no time before time was created!
its useful if we understand that as the ultimate creator God Is Separate from Both Time and the Universe
Think of it this way There was no “before” God created. There was not even “nothing”! There was God existing in eternity.
This is a concept that we humans, as finite created beings, can never really understand. That’s why the Bible makes it clear there is always a “Faith” aspect to our understanding of God.
But biblical faith is not against reason,it simply means that there are things that are beyond our understanding.
lets look at a few verses from scripture to help support the concept…
Hebrews 11:6 States
But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Psalms 90:2 Reads..
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
“So what was “before” creation? God existing from everlasting to everlasting.
Do you remember what God said to Moses when he asked God who he should say sent him to lead his people out of Egypt’s oppression?
“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’
God is the great “I AM.” He exists in eternity. He was not created.
In Revelation 1: 8 we read,
1:8 For he saith, I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, the Lord, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.
Isiah 43:10 states
Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he; before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me
Without wishing to deviate to much from the subject it is also worth remembering that because God eists outside of time he can see our whole journey before we can and can dip in and out as necessary he is able to see the entire expanse of history at the same time, and he can prove this to us by bringing forth Prophecy that always comes true

perhaps a statement to remember when talking to others is this could be..
God exists—He is…….He is the eternal self-existent One…..He is outside of time.
As I have already stated this is a very difficult concept for many to wrap their minds around because as humans living in a world where time exists we have no frame of reference beyond what we are told.
God wanted us to know His plan for history, from beginning to end. The Bible makes it clear many times that God’s existence is completely separate from the history of this universe.
so I feel it is a mistake to talk about what God was doing “before creation” because the concept of time (before, during, and after) did not come to be until Day One of Creation
History began when it was first recorded—the first verse of Genesis.
